The GAO posted the report
Nanomanufacturing:
Emergence and Implications for U.S. Competitiveness, the Environment, and Human Health in January. The report indicates that the US is leading in nanotechnology R&D but faces some difficult challenges:
- Lack of US leadership of international standards
- Lack of US nanomanufacturing vision
- Funding gaps
- Aggressive competitor nations
The US has invested $20B to date since the National Nanotechnology Initiative (2001) was started in 2001. Nanotechnology is projected to have a major economic and social impact in the future. It is important to maintain our lead in this area.
