Nature posted a neat video showing a 3-D image of a platinum nanoparticle. Researchers used a SEM to create a 100+ images of th nanoparticle and combined them together to produce the 3-D image. The researchers are interested in learning about how step dislocations occur in the crystal lattice and how they affect the material properties of the nanoparticle.
