EChem Nanowires Education Foundation Inc. and Argonne National Laboratory have developed an educational kit that allows students to
fabricate nanowires. The nanowire fabrication kit uses an insulated nanodiamond film on a substrate that is etched to expose edges of the nanodiamond film. An electroplating solution is added and the metal ions self align on the exposed nanodiamond film. The nanowires are lifted off the nanodiamond film for use in the intended application. The nanodiamond film can be reused indefinitely. Several short
videos are available that show how the process works. It's a really neat idea and won the 2014 Award of the Year from R&D magazine.
